Morelia
Coming soon
Morelia was built out of pink cantera stone and makes no secret of it. The historic center holds more than thirteen hundred buildings of it and has been a World Heritage site since 1991, which in practice means narrow streets, arcades and a lot of places a van cannot go.
It is a state capital and a university town at once. The economy runs on services first and tourism second, and the Colegio de San Nicolás has been teaching since the sixteenth century, so there is a floating student population that rents, barely cooks, and leaves.
Eating here is taken seriously. Michoacán cooking is what Mexico put to UNESCO as the example of its traditional cuisine, and it shows: people can tell good carnitas from ordinary ones, and a corunda made that morning from one that was not.
Meal prep here today
Kitchens already sell the full week, mostly out toward Camelinas and Altozano where people work office hours and get home late. Others cook for students by the month, which is a different portion and a different price.
All of it moves by message. Menu over WhatsApp, payment by transfer, delivery area established by asking. Comparing two kitchens means opening two conversations and waiting.

How Platera helps
The historic center complicates delivery in a way it does not elsewhere: single lane streets, pedestrian stretches and almost nowhere to stop. A kitchen that delivers easily around Altozano does not necessarily go into the center at all.
So each business publishes how far it reaches and at what hour. You search by your colonia and see who comes there, rather than finding out after you have booked the week.
Frequently asked questions
How many days does it keep refrigerated?
Three to five days sealed. Anything with fish, or vegetables that arrive already dressed, keeps less well and is worth eating in the first couple of days.
Can it be frozen?
Some of it. Stews, rice and meat in sauce take the freezer well. Salads and raw vegetables do not, and a corunda reheated from frozen is not the same thing, so eat that one early.
Is it dearer than cooking at home?
Against a single supermarket receipt, yes. Against a whole month, rarely: no more vegetables forgotten in the drawer, no more last-minute shopping, no more delivery orders on the nights there was no time.
Do they deliver inside the historic center?
Some kitchens do and some will not. Between the pedestrian streets and the lack of parking, going into the center costs a driver far more than dropping on an avenue. Each business states it in its coverage area.
Do they reach Tarímbaro?
A few. Tarímbaro is part of the metropolitan area and plenty of people sleep there and work in Morelia, but it is a long run and not everyone makes it. Worth checking before you sign up.
Do they cook Michoacán food or just generic set meals?
Both exist, and here the difference is noticeable. Some kitchens work regional recipes and others build a neutral menu around portions and calories. The menus are published, so you can see which is which straight away.
I am a student. Are there smaller plans?
Yes, and they are common here given how many people come to study. Several kitchens sell by the single week or in smaller portions at a different price. You filter for what each one offers instead of asking kitchen by kitchen.
