Hermosillo

Coming soon

Hermosillo is the capital of Sonora and a plant town. Ford's assembly line has been here since the eighties and much of what Sonora ships north now leaves from it, on shifts that set the shape of the day for thousands of families in the south of the city.

And the heat has to be said out loud. Summer sends the thermometer a long way up, and parts of the city, especially west and south, are worse for asphalt and missing shade. That decides what hour everything happens, food delivery included.

The Sonoran table is beef and wheat. Carne asada over mesquite seasoned with nothing but salt, big flour tortillas, machaca, caldo de queso. Coyotas came out of Villa de Seris, right here, and the family bakeries in that neighborhood still sell them.

Meal prep here today

Weekly prepared food already exists and grew up alongside the plant shifts and the suppliers in the south. Someone finishing at three in the afternoon with forty-five degrees outside is not going to cook, and the kitchens selling here know it.

The problem is finding them. Each sells on its own through Instagram and WhatsApp, and there is nowhere to see together who delivers in your colonia and at what hour.

How Platera helps

The city is spread out, and in summer the hour of delivery matters as much as the zone. Dropping food at nine in the morning is not the same as four in the afternoon, and not every kitchen runs in the cool hours.

With zone, days and times published, you see at once who reaches where you live and when they do it, without negotiating it over messages.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the food keep in the fridge?

Three to five days in a sealed container. The count starts when it was cooked, not when it reached you, so it is worth asking what day it was made if you get it late in the week.

Does freezing work?

It works well for stews, meat in sauce and rice. Raw vegetables and salads no. In this heat it pays to set aside what goes in the freezer on day one, because opening and closing the fridge twenty times does not help.

Does it cost more than cooking at home?

A week of shopping looks cheaper. A month almost never is: in summer running the stove at midday costs you in air conditioning, and eating out after a shift adds up faster than it seems.

In summer, does the food arrive in good condition?

It depends how each one runs their route. Several kitchens here deliver early or later in the afternoon and use a cooler for the round, precisely because of the temperatures. It is among the first things worth asking, which is why the delivery hour is published.

Do they deliver out by the assembly plant?

Several do, and some fit the hour to shift change rather than to lunch. The south of the city holds a lot of that work, so it is well covered, though not by everyone.

Does this replace the weekend carne asada?

No, and it is not trying to. Saturday's asada is a different thing and not something to solve with a container. Weekly plans are for the weekdays, which are exactly the ones that go badly.

Are there lighter options than the traditional food?

Yes. Alongside the kitchens making Sonoran food the way it has always been made, others focus on measured portions, chicken and fish, or menus without flour. Both exist here and the published menu tells them apart.
