Culiacán
Coming soon
Culiacán lives on farming. Sinaloa supplies vegetables to much of the country and to the United States, and here the hours follow the fields: you start early because by mid-morning the heat has arrived.
The city grew where the Humaya and the Tamazula meet to form the Culiacán river, and that confluence gave it the Tres Ríos district. Summer is hot and humid, and the cyclones come through in August and September.
Meal prep here today
It is one of the ironies of the place: vegetables are grown here for half the country, and solving the week's food at home is still hard work. There are prepared-food and healthy-delivery businesses selling weekly packs for exactly that.
As in the rest of the country they sell by direct message. In this climate, knowing what time the delivery lands matters as much as knowing what is in it.

How Platera helps
The rivers split the city and the bridges decide the route. A kitchen on one side does not always cover the other at rush hour, and in the rainy season that shifts further still.
With zone, days and timing published up front, you choose by who reaches your colonia and when, without asking one business at a time.
Frequently asked questions
How many days does it last once refrigerated?
Three to five days is normal, always covered. With the heat and humidity here it pays to be strict, and anything with fish or dressed vegetables gets eaten early.
Will the freezer do for the rest?
A good part of it does. Stews, rice and meat in sauce come out just as well; salads and raw vegetables do not. If you booked seven days, put the later portions in the freezer as they arrive.
Does it cost more than making the food?
Against the supermarket price, yes. Against the full outlay, rarely: you are not buying a kilo of bell peppers to use one, vegetables do not spoil on you midweek, and you stop ordering in on the heavy days. And there are no pans to scrub.
Can I try without booking the week?
Yes, and it is the advisable way to start. Several businesses sell packs of two or three meals with that in mind. On Platera you can see who has them without asking by message.
Is the delivery weekly?
It goes by the business. Some leave everything at once, some break it into two or three so it arrives fresher, and a few deliver daily. Each publishes its frequency and you choose.
Do they deliver across the river?
It depends on the business, which is why each one publishes its zone. The bridges gather the traffic at certain hours and not every kitchen crosses, so you filter by your colonia and see who reaches it.
Do deliveries run late in the rainy season?
It can happen, particularly in August and September. That is why the delivery window is worth checking and not just the day: the businesses that publish a clear time are the ones that tell you when something shifts.
